Grammar : singular and plural nouns
Je découvre : un ou plusieurs ?
Un nom est singulier quand il désigne une seule chose (a cat) et pluriel quand il en désigne plusieurs (two cats). Le plus souvent, on ajoute -s.
- a book → two books
- a dog → three dogs
Quelques règles
- Les noms en -s, -x, -ch, -sh, -z : on ajoute -es (a box → boxes, a bus → buses, a watch → watches).
- Les noms en consonne + y : le y devient -ies (a baby → babies, a city → cities).
- Les noms en voyelle + y : on ajoute -s (a boy → boys).
Exemple
One box, two boxes. One city, three cities. One day, five days.
Les pluriels irréguliers
- a man → men
- a woman → women
- a child → children
- a foot → feet
- a tooth → teeth
- a mouse → mice
- a person → people
- a fish → fish
